IN MEMORY OF

There’s a ring on the Blond cover, and almost no one notices it. Before your eye gets to it, it’s drawn to the hand covering his face, the bandaged finger, the green hair, or the raw texture of the photo. The ring sits quietly off to the side, easy to miss, but on that cover, nothing is accidental.

Where did this ring come from? What does it say? Why does an entire album about memory carry, almost hidden, a ring in the corner of its cover?

THE RING

Zoom in on the photo and there it is: a silver ring with engraved lettering and black enamel. Beautiful and enigmatic. Almost mysterious. What could it possibly say?

The answer took us back more than a century.

RESEARCH

A 160-YEAR-OLD RING

We followed every clue: zooming in on the cover, comparing auction archives, antique dealer catalogs, and historical jewelry collections.

Everything points to the ring on the cover being a Victorian-era piece from the tradition of mourning rings, rings that carried the inscription “In Memory Of” along with the name of the person who had passed away. They were made to remember.

An album about memory, with a ring made to never forget: there was no way it could be a coincidence.

Victorian-era jewelry is now nearly impossible to find for sale, as these pieces are extremely rare and expensive, often reaching thousands of dollars. It’s very likely that Frank either had this piece made or acquired it from a renowned jeweler specifically for the cover of Blond.

THE DROP

We knew what it was. All that was left was to bring it back.

To launch our In Memory, simply photographing the ring wasn’t enough. If it was born from that cover, it had to return to it: we recreated the entire Blond photo, found a model with a body structure similar to Frank’s, and studied the lighting, the steam, the framing, and the gesture.

We brought together a large team of photographers, makeup artists, and creatives to turn this detail into a complete campaign. Drag and compare.

NO EXAGGERATION

We could say we went all out for this recreation, but we really did. We shaved the model’s head, dyed it green, cut our logo into it with clippers, rented an Airbnb with a similar setting, and recreated the entire atmosphere.
